About Us

Fatima (Fafa) and Antonio Gomes lived for a long time in New York City. While living there, they worked as Tourism Guides. They showed the city for many Brazilian, South Americans and European visitors, as well as Americans, and all the while they remained passionate about the work that they did.

In November, 2000 in what they considered the second phase of their lives, they moved to Boston to live out their dream of opening their own Brazilian restaurant. They decided that they could accomplish another passion in their lives. They wanted to show Brazilian Cookery at its finest, and bringing with them dishes that they grew up with while living in Brazil.

The opening of the restaurant MUQUECA, is homey and cozy restaurant, which is located between Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. For Fafa and Antonio to have this restaurant they brought with them all delicacies of the finest Brazilian Cuizine, most principally delicacies from their state Espirito Santo.

MUQUECA, is the name of one of the main dishes cooked in homes in Espirito Santo. In order to prepare the Moqueca in the same way the Native Brazilians did for centuries, Fafa and Antonio ordered clay pots crafts that came directly from Brazil. A typical craft made by the Association of Clay Pots of Goiabeiras, ES, families whose devoted their lives to perfecting Moqueca pots for almost 4 centuries.

Natural juices of exotic fruits from the Amazon Rain Forest like: Açaí, Cupuaçú, Graviola and Acerola, complete the Brazilian flavors of their menu.
